Prime Minister’s Initiative for Capacity Building of 1,000 Agriculture Graduates at China

Islamabad: July 19, 2025

Under a flagship initiative launched by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for revolutionizing Pakistan’s agriculture sector vis-a vis capacity building of 1000 agricultural graduates at various Chinese Universities/institutions, a group of 100 young agricultural professionals is all set to depart for China on 20th July, 2025 via PIA’s chartered plane for six (06) months long training in the field of crop breeding and genomics at Southwest University of Science and Technology, as part of Batch-II. The initiative is all meant to learn from China’s climate-smart and technology-driven agricultural best practices. Ministry of National Food Security & Research (MNFSR), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MOITT), Planning Commission and Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing and other public sector agencies are involved into implementing the program.

In this regard, a pre-departure ceremony was organized on 19th July, 2025 by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR), at National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad. Purpose of the event was to brief a cohort of 100 trainees of Batch-II on modalities of training program.

Officers of MNFSR, HEC and other organizations emphasized that this initiative reflects the Prime Minister’s vision to strengthen Pakistan’s agriculture sector through technology adoption and research & development. The speakers encouraged the graduates to make the most out of their training, maintain discipline, and to act as a vehicle of scientific and technical cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Officers outlined that initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s agenda to modernize agriculture, ensure food security and promote rural prosperity. They stressed upon that it is an investment in human capital that will bring long-term dividends by transforming Pakistan’s agriculture into a more productive, climate-resilient, and export-oriented sector.

Earlier a cohort of 292 candidates completed three months long training at Shaanxi-based universities/institutions on 17th July, 2025 and are set to return home on the morning Monday i.e. 21st July, 2025.
