The Chief Executive Officer of the Suzuki Motor Company, Pakistan, called upon the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce to discuss issues being faced by the local automotive industry. Concerns regarding allowing import of used vehicles for commercial use were raised by the reps from Suzuki. The CEO of Suzuki Motor Company were of the view that opening up the international market of used cars could result in vehicles of inferior quality flooding the Pakistani Market, which could have a detrimental impact on customer welfare. The delegation was informed by senior representatives of the Ministry of Commerce that their concerns would be addressed by appropriate considerations in the Import Policy Order, and that the government would strive to ensure maximum customer welfare through the relevant laws. The reps from Suzuki were also invited to provide their contributions pertinent to automotive sector for the National Tariff Policy 2025-2030, and were assured their genuine concerns would be addressed.
The meeting reaffirmed the Ministry of Commerce’s commitment to providing a dynamic and flexible business environment to the automotive industry, with a focus to improving the trade indicators of Pakistan.
