Message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the International Day of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) — June 27, 2025

Islamabad: June 26, 2025

Every year, June 27 is observed as the International Day of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to recognize their critical role in driving sustainable economic growth and development.

This year’s theme, “Enhancing the Role of MSMEs as Drivers of Sustainable Growth and Innovation,” rightly emphasizes that while large-scale manufacturing is essential for economic advancement, there is an urgent need to strengthen and scale up the contributions of MSMEs. These enterprises ensure that the benefits of economic progress are widely shared across all segments of society.

Our entrepreneurs require targeted support, through easier access to finance, adoption of innovative technologies, and stronger market linkages. Our Government is fully committed to integrating enterprising individuals into the broader manufacturing and productivity cycle of our economy.

In this spirit, SMEDA, under the guidance of the SME Development Steering Committee has formulated a Three-Year Business Plan focused on expanding SMEs’ access to finance, increasing their share in exports, and creating new industrial opportunities, particularly in climate resilience, sub-contracting, and women entrepreneurship. To further improve institutional support, SMEDA is being restructured for greater effectiveness.

A major milestone in this direction is the establishment of a Rs. 30 billion Development Fund over five years to promote innovative and sustainable MSME projects across the country.

With firm resolve, I assure our entrepreneurs that the Government is fully committed to building a dynamic, business-friendly environment in which MSMEs can thrive and play their rightful role in Pakistan’s sustainable development.
