Islamabad: June 26, 2025

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, visited the National Tariff Commission (NTC) in Islamabad to review its mandate, operational functions, and institutional capacity.

During the visit, the Chairman NTC and senior officials briefed the Coordinator on the Commission’s core responsibilities, which include advising the government on tariff matters and implementing trade remedy laws such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, and safeguard measures. The role of NTC in protecting domestic industries from unfair international trade practices was emphasized as a critical component of Pakistan’s trade policy.

The session also served as a platform for open dialogue, where NTC officials shared institutional challenges and discussed ways to enhance performance. Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan expressed appreciation for NTC’s work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Commission. He assured full support to equip NTC with modern tools, emphasizing the need for digitization to improve efficiency and expedite processes.

“The NTC must evolve into a data-driven, tech-enabled institution to effectively safeguard Pakistan’s economic interests in today’s dynamic global trade environment,” stated the coordinator.

The visit underscores the government’s resolve to foster a more competitive trade environment for Pakistani exporters and provide robust protections to local industries against predatory trade practices.
