Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting regarding security and other arrangements during Muharram at the Ministry of Interior. During the meeting, the security and administrative measures planned for Islamabad during Muharram were
reviewed in detail.
The Interior Minister directed strict checking at the entry and exit points of all processions and Majalis. A central control room will be established at Safe City, and multi-layered security will be deployed for the protection of Majalis and processions. A comprehensive traffic management plan has also been devised. The geo-tagging of all Imambargahs, Majalis, and procession routes has been completed.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that there will be zero tolerance against inflammatory content, and social media will be strictly monitored. He emphasized the use of modern technology for the surveillance of Majalis and processions. He also instructed that special arrangements must be ensured for food and refreshments of the personnel on duty. He added that personnel should be deployed on proper shift basis to allow rest time so that they could perform their duties vigilantly.
Mohsin Naqvi stressed that foolproof security and administrative arrangements must be ensured to thwart the nefarious intentions of anti-state elements. He also directed to maintain close coordination with religious scholars from all schools of thought to uphold peace and harmony.
The Interior Minister further emphasized strict adherence to the code of conduct, and appealed to all segments of society to play their role in ensuring sectarian harmony during Muharram.
During the briefing, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad and DIG Islamabad informed that 181 processions and 965 Majalis will be held in Islamabad during Muharram. Moreover, The security audit of all Majalis and processions has been completed.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, Additional Secretary Interior, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, ADC(G) DIGs, all SPs, and Assistant Commissioners.
