Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, visited Quetta and chaired a high-level meeting on polio eradication efforts in Balochistan. During the session held at the Emergency Operations Center, national and provincial coordinators briefed the minister on the current polio situation and ongoing initiatives.
The Minister was informed that no polio case has been reported from Balochistan so far this year — a significant milestone in the fight against this crippling disease.
Speaking at the occasion, Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment under the leadership of the Prime Minister to eliminate polio from every corner of Pakistan. He highlighted that both federal and provincial governments are united in this national cause.
“The entire nation must reject misinformation and ensure every child is vaccinated,” the Minister urged. “We cannot afford complacency — the poliovirus still exists, and our vigilance is key to its complete eradication.”
Minister Kamal paid tribute to frontline workers, stating, “Polio workers are our real heroes. The nation salutes their tireless efforts and sacrifices.” He appealed to all segments of society, including religious scholars, teachers, and community elders, to actively support the ongoing campaigns.
He reiterated the need for public awareness and responsibility, stressing that polio has no cure, unlike diseases such as cancer which can be treated. “It is imperative that every child under the age of five receives polio drops in every campaign. Your decision today shapes your child’s future.”
The Minister reassured parents that the oral polio vaccine is safe, effective, and globally endorsed. “The same vaccine that helped eradicate polio in all Muslim and non-Muslim countries around the world, including Afghanistan under the Taliban government, is being used in Pakistan,” he noted.
He called upon communities to take ownership of the campaign by ensuring that every eligible child around them is vaccinated. “Invite polio teams into your homes and help protect your children.”
The Federal Minister concluded by saying that a united national front is essential to defeating polio once and for all.
