Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar met today with the Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, Mr. Tahir Nasrullah Warraich. The meeting involved detailed discussions on the upcoming bar council elections, the eligibility criteria for lawyers, and the reform proposals of the Pakistan Bar Council.
The Law Minister emphasized that the bar council elections will be held on schedule, and the existing consensus regarding the eligibility criteria will be upheld.
He further stated that in order to promote professional lawyers and to limit the influence of non-professional elements, the recommendations of the Bar Council will be incorporated into the proposed legislation. He also mentioned that grants-in-aid have been issued to support legal education and development projects for the bar.
Minister Tarar advised Mr. Warraich to submit the council’s written proposals to the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice. He reaffirmed the government's strong commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.
