A high-level meeting of the Committee on the Revival of Sick Industrial Units was held today, following the special directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed and discussed proposals for the rehabilitation of sick and struggling industrial units across the country.
Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan stated that the revival of sick industrial units is a key component of the Prime Minister's economic vision. He identified high utility costs, elevated interest rates, and lack of access to financing for small industrialists as the major challenges hampering industrial revival.
The committee recommended that the State Bank of Pakistan issue new guidelines to commercial banks to extend financial assistance and support to sick industrial units.
Furthermore, the committee proposed incentives in taxation, comprehensive business revival plans, and a system for categorizing borrowers to ensure targeted support.
"We will present a complete revival plan under the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif," said Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, adding that the rehabilitation of these units will contribute significantly to boosting exports and improving the national economy.
Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan directed the committee to finalize the draft of the revival plan by tomorrow.
