Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired a follow-up meeting with sugar mill owners and key stakeholders to ensure transparency and stability in the sugar sector. In a significant development, it was agreed that a mutually approved third-party audit firm will be hired to conduct an independent audit of sugar production costs. This step is aimed at ensuring transparency in the determination of production expenses and price setting, thereby creating a fair and data-driven pricing framework for the future.
The Minister also appreciated the positive gesture by the sugar mills, who agreed to reduce ex-mill prices of sugar temporarily until Eid-ul-Azha to provide immediate relief to consumers. He acknowledged this as a constructive move that reflects the industry's willingness to cooperate with the government in the interest of market stability and public welfare. It was further agreed that a new pricing formula, based on the audit results and mutual consultation, will be finalized after Eid.
Rana Tanveer Hussain reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting transparency, fair pricing, and consumer protection. He emphasized that sustained dialogue and coordination between the public and private sectors is essential for ensuring food security and curbing artificial inflation. The Ministry will continue its proactive approach in regulating essential commodities through responsible policymaking, stakeholder engagement, and market oversight.
