CHAIRMAN SENATE OF PAKISTAN, SYED YOUSAF RAZA GILANI MEETS PRESIDENT OF THE HOUSE OF COUNCILLORS OF THE KINGDOM OF MOROCCO, MOHAMED OULD ERRACHID

According to a report received from Morocco) The Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani held an important meeting with the President of the House of Councillors of Morocco, Mr. Mohamed Ould Errachid, during which matters of mutual interest between the two countries were discussed in detail. On this occasion, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani stated that Pakistan and Morocco are bound by deep religious, cultural, and historical ties, and both nations attach great importance to their longstanding fraternal relations. He further said that the parliaments of Pakistan and Morocco have consistently supported each other’s positions and both brotherly countries hold common views on significant regional and global issues.
The Chairman Senate also recalled that in 1952, Pakistan had issued a passport to Morocco’s senior freedom leader Ahmed Balafrej for participation in the United Nations Security Council, which stands as a notable example of solidarity between the two nations. He emphasized that strengthening parliamentary relations can play a vital role in promoting harmony between the two brotherly countries. He also stressed the need for close cooperation among Muslim countries to address the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah.
Furthermore, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani praised Morocco’s socio-economic development and said that there are numerous opportunities to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Morocco in sectors such as agriculture, information technology, education, vocational training, tourism, and others. He also highlighted the importance of people-to-people exchanges, particularly among youth and the business communities of both nations. Appreciating Morocco’s long and proud history, the Chairman Senate remarked that the country’s history spans over 1,200 years and its development and achievements are truly commendable.

On this occasion, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani congratulated Mr. Mohamed Ould Errachid on the successful convening of the third edition of the South-South Parliamentary Forum and stated that the Forum is a significant international platform where crucial issues such as climate change, food insecurity, and mutual cooperation among member countries are discussed. He also extended his best wishes for the recovery and well-being of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

During the meeting, Mohamed Oud Errachid thanked Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani for participating in the South-South Parliamentary Forum and remarked that Pakistan is an important country of the Islamic world, with which Morocco values its close fraternal relations. He emphasized that strengthening parliamentary ties between the two countries can play an important role in bringing the two nations closer. Mohamed Ould Errachid also appreciated Pakistan's role in promoting unity among Muslim countries.

During the meeting, both leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, which was concluded after a gap of four years. In addition, the two sides agreed to re-activate the Joint Ministerial Commission and discussed effectively highlighting mutual interests at regional and international forums through enhanced parliamentary cooperation. This meeting proved to be a significant step toward further strengthening parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Morocco.
