Federal Government will not take any unilateral decision without consensus between provinces, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Mussadiq Malik

Federal Government to work closely with all provinces and GB&k for environmental protection, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Mussadiq Malik

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Mussadiq Malik visited Karachi on 24th and 25th Apr 2025. During his visit to the provincial capital of Sindh, he visited different projects and held meetings with different stakeholders including Provincial Minister for Climate Change Dost Mohammad Rahimoon and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah.

During his visit to the Urban Forest at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park Clifton, he addressed the media and said that he was assigned the mission by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to restore the effects of climate change.

He pledged that Federal Government is responsible for un-doing the effects of climate change from Gilgit to the Indus Delta and that natural habitats will be restored in lakes, Sea, forests and mountains.

On a question of carbon credits, he said that 10 countries are responsible for 85% carbon emissions and despite emitting 40% less carbons in allotted qouta, Pakistan is among 5 countries which are deeply effected by climate change. He said that those countries responsible for emmissions should provide financing to the climate vulnerable countries for sustainable development. In this regard, he briefed the media that, in consensus with all provinces, Federal Government will chart out eco-financing projects to combat climate change.

On a question regarding six canals from river Indus, he reiterated the stance of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif that no unilateral decision will be taken in this regard and no any project will be devised without mutual consensus. Further, he announced that Federal Government has financed telemetering system which will provide actual data of water disposal to every province and every canal which will be helpful in addressing the grievances of units.

On a question of Indian accusations tensions, he said that Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism, allegations of Indian government are baseless. "National Security Committee's response is befitting and need of hour", he added.
