WB and IFC officials agree to enhance cooperation with Railways while meeting with Kayani
Islamabad: April 9, 2025

A delegation from the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has expressed its strong support for the modernization of Pakistan Railways during a meeting with Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Railways. The delegation was led by World Bank Regional Director, Pankaj Gupta, and included World Bank Program Leader Muhammad Anis and IFC Country Principal Officer Naz Khan. Minister Bilal Azhar Kayani emphasized that the modernization of Pakistan Railways is a top priority for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with a focus on providing high-quality travel services to the public. He pointed out that the planned reforms would not only modernize the railways but also play a key role in boosting the country’s economic growth. Minister Kayani added that the improvements in the railway sector would have a positive impact on the overall pace of the economy. The World Bank and IFC delegation briefed Minister Kayani on various proposals aimed at enhancing the railway's infrastructure and services. Both sides agreed to strengthen their collaborative efforts to ensure the continued transformation of Pakistan Railways. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing these reforms, which will ultimately contribute to more efficient and sustainable railway services in the country.
