Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain presided over the 2nd meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA). The meeting focused on ensuring the supply of high-quality seeds across Pakistan in line with the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. During the meeting, strict actions were decided to improve seed quality, and it was emphasized that certified seeds must be the primary focus. The Federal Minister stressed that the government remains committed to strict enforcement of quality standards in the agricultural sector. A third-party audit of seed companies was discussed in detail, and the NSDRA and the Federal Seed Certification Department worked on the basis of that audit report. NSDRA representatives briefed the Federal Minister on their action plan as per the data from the third-party audit. A major decision of the board was the immediate closure of 392 seed companies that failed to comply with NSDRA standards. The board members unanimously agreed that, as per the directives of the Prime Minister, decisive action was necessary to ensure high-quality seed production in the country. Strict enforcement of the seed authority compliance mechanism was emphasized to regulate seed companies effectively. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain assured that the Ministry of National Food Security and Research remains dedicated to enhancing the agricultural sector to its maximum potential. The Federal Minister further stated that difficult decisions like these will ensure long-term improvements in Pakistan’s agriculture, benefiting farmers and ensuring national food security.
