Message from the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh on Kashmir Solidarity Day
Islamabad: February 05, 2025

"Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir. Our hearts bleed for thousands of innocent souls killed in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Children, young men, and women who have been brutally targeted for merely demanding their fundamental right have left their blood on the streets of Kashmir. Their stories of broken homes, mothers who lost their sons, and kids who grew up without fathers are more than simply statistics. We strongly condemn the heinous crimes carried out by Indian troops in Kashmir. The most brutal kind of state terrorism has been inflicted on the Kashmiri people, including enforced disappearances, unlawful killings, and the deprivation of food, medicine, and education. Schools and mosques are not exempted either. Kashmir is now an open-air jail due to Indian control. Article 1 of the United Nations Charter and Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights affirm that "All peoples have the right to self-determination." However, for decades, this right has been denied to the Kashmiri people through oppression, manipulation, and violence. How long will the world remain silent in the face of such cruelty? We urge the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and global leaders to open their eyes to the suffering in Kashmir and take concrete steps to end the illegal occupation and human rights abuses in Kashmir and ensure access to basic necessities—food, medicine, and communication. Pakistan stands firm in its moral and diplomatic support for our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. We promise that their sacrifices will never be forgotten, nor will their voices be silenced. The martyrs of Kashmir live in our hearts."
