Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, held a significant meeting with the Ambassador of Iran today to discuss bilateral agricultural trade and cooperation. During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing trade relations between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in the agricultural sector. He highlighted Pakistan’s capacity to export high-quality rice, mangoes, and halal meat to Iran, offering potential to meet Iran's growing demand. Discussions also covered the streamlining of plant quarantine and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures to facilitate smoother trade. The Minister urged the Iranian side to expedite the finalization of the Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) dossier for maize, submitted by Pakistan earlier this year. Both sides explored opportunities for mutual capacity building in agricultural research, including collaboration on high-value crops like saffron, pistachios, and almonds, as well as renewable energy use in agriculture. The Federal Minister also proposed harmonizing protocols to enable the export of processed poultry and other value-added products from Pakistan to Iran. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a strong commitment to fostering a prosperous and sustainable trade partnership.
