The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT) held a key meeting chaired by Minister of State Shaza Fatima Khawaja on January 6, 2025, to review the progress on Starlink’s licensing and regulatory frameworks for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.
The meeting included key stakeholders:
• Mr. Zarrar Hashim Khan, Secretary IT, Ministry of IT & Telecom
• Mr. Azfar Manzoor, Special Secretary, Ministry of IT & Telecom
• Mr. Amer Sarfaraz Ahmed, Chairman, Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board
• Mr. Muhammad Yousuf Khan, Chairman, SUPARCO
• Maj. Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Chairman, PTA
• Mr. Jehanzeb Rahim, Member (Telecom), Ministry of IT & Telecom
During the meeting, it was decided that consultant hiring will be completed in a few weeks, for regulations.
Discussions focused on expediting these processes to ensure a robust regulatory framework for LEO satellites, enhancing connectivity, and driving technological innovation. The Minister emphasized the need for aligning Pakistan’s policies with global standards to unlock satellite technology’s full potential for national growth.
