The Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja chaired the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) board meeting at the Ministry of IT&T, Islamabad. The meeting focused on reviewing PSEB’s performance and the impact report for the fiscal year 2023-24. Key stakeholders, including Federal Secretary of the Ministry of IT&T, Mr. Zarrar Hasham Khan; CEO of PSEB, Abu Bakar; and Chairman of P@SHA, Sajjad Syed, were in attendance. The board was briefed on PSEB’s significant contributions to Pakistan’s IT sector through marketing, business development, and workforce development initiatives. In the domain of marketing and business development, it was reported that PSEB facilitated 27 international events and outbound delegations during the last 18 months, with participation from 272 companies. These efforts led to the generation of 7,862 business leads, strengthening the global footprint of Pakistan’s IT industry. In terms of workforce development, the board was informed that over 18,000 IT export professionals are currently employed across 43 software technology parks (STPs) established by PSEB. These parks have played a pivotal role in creating a dynamic environment for innovation and technological advancement. Furthermore, PSEB’s initiatives since 2020 have resulted in more than 10,000 job placements through targeted training, certifications, and internship programs. Looking ahead, PSEB aims to empower 25,000 freelancers by 2027 through the establishment of 250 e-Rozgar Centers across the country, providing vital support for Pakistan’s gig economy. One of the meeting’s highlights was the announcement of the establishment of the first Women’s Software Technology Park in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), set to become operational in February 2025. This initiative marks a significant milestone in gender inclusivity within the IT sector, ensuring that women have greater access to opportunities in the digital economy. Currently, 20% of the workforce in PSEB-supported STPs comprises female IT professionals, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce. The Minister of State lauded PSEB’s efforts to advance Pakistan’s IT sector, emphasizing the importance of innovation, skill development, and international collaboration. She particularly highlighted the establishment of the Women’s Software Technology Park as a groundbreaking achievement, stating, “This initiative underscores our dedication to creating equal opportunities for women and ensuring their meaningful participation in Pakistan’s digital economy.” The meeting concluded with a shared vision to further enhance the IT sector’s global presence, strengthen workforce development, and promote inclusivity and equity in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey.
