Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain has stated regarding the registration of madrassah that it has been a long-standing necessity. Consultations have been held with madrassah administrations, respected scholars, and political leaders over various periods. In response to Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s demands, the government passed a bill in Parliament to fulfill its commitment. Due to some legal complexities, it will take a bit of time to give the madrassah registration bill legal shape. This absolutely does not mean that the entire process of madrasa registration will be rolled back based on this. Madrassas are educational institutions that fall under the Ministry of Education. Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain further mentioned that the madrassah administration faced legal complexities and a lengthy process for registration. After years of hard work, a one-window system has been established under the Directorate General for Religious Education, Ministry of Education, which now has 18,000 registered madrassas. If the process starts again due to the demand for madrassah registration, all the previous efforts would be wasted. Madrassas are educational institutions, not industrial entities. Accepting this demand would mean that anyone could demand to run any profession under another ministry for any reason. The country’s system operates under established principles and regulations, not based on desires. The Ministry of Education and the Directorate General for Religious Education have made the registration process easier and more convenient for madrassas, with an extremely simple one-window operation available for madrassa registration under the Directorate General for Religious Education.
