Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Mrs. Saba Sadiq addressed an event at the Transgender Protection Centre to mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance. She emphasized the urgent need to eliminate violence and discrimination against the transgender community and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to upholding their rights through robust legal frameworks, including the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018. The event was attended by the Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and many transgender individuals, who shared their stories and called for stronger safeguards. Mrs. Sadiq underscored the importance of collective efforts by governments, civil society, and international organizations to build an inclusive society where all individuals, irrespective of gender identity, can live with dignity and respect. The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence to honor transgender individuals who lost their lives to violence, reaffirming the government’s dedication to advancing human rights and fostering equality for all marginalized communities.
