Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan Senator Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar attended the 28th Council of Foreign Ministers (COM) of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) held in Mashhad on 3rd December 2024. While addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar acknowledged the efforts contributed by Iran as ECO chair for the year 2023 and Azerbaijan as the ECO chair for the year 2024 respectively. Drawing attention of the ECO leaders towards the pressing regional economical issues he emphasized on the promotion of intra-regional trade and connectivity and establishing integrated markets and production facilities in the ECO region. He highlighted ECO’s initiatives and possible strategies underlining regional cooperation to tackle the regional issues through mutual support, such as development of business to business contacts, tourism related trade and visa regimes, cooperation in energy sector, sustainable and green economies etc. Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Abbas Aragchi in augurated the event, as Iran is the ECO chair 2024 and host of event. In his welcome addressed he acknowledged contribution made by Azerbaijan for successfully concluding its tenure as ECO chair 2023. He also welcomed Kazakhtan as the new Chair of ECO for the year 2025. He further commended important achievements of ECO as a regional organization, such as operationalization of transport corridors, reviewing the ECO Vision 2025, progress in Tourism sector and the ECO reform process to improve ECO’s efficiency and enhanced representation of member states. Pakistan is one of the formative members of ECO in addition to Iran and Turkiye that was formed in 1985 from the regional cooperation for development (RCD). Pakistan strongly commens to the principles of ECO which aims at promotion of trade and connectively through mutual cooperation.
