PR No.216 Ashan Iqbal Bestowed Upon “Star Minister” Of CPEC Islamabad: March 24, 2016

National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) of China’s Vice Chairman has bestowed upon Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Prof. Ahsan Iqbal the title of “Star Minister” of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Federal Minister Ahsan is currently on a visit to China to participate in Bao Forum. On the sidelines of Bao Forum, Ahsan Iqbal met with Vice Chairman NDRC and discussed with him CPEC-related affairs. NDRC is focal ministry of China on CPEC whereas Planning Commission of Pakistan is its counterpart. NDRC Vice Chairman lauded what he said untiring efforts of Ahsan Iqbal for CPEC. He called Prof. Ahsan Iqbal “Star Minister” of CPEC.

Meanwhile speaking at Bao Forum, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said taht China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) took the bilateral ties between China and Pakistan to new heights. He stated, “CPEC is a trans-regional project, which would integrate China, South Asia and Central Asia through enhanced and improved regional connectivity. It will create an integrated economic block of three billion people”. Ahsan Iqbal said that out of 46 billion dollar, 35 billion dollar would be invested in energy projects and eleven billion dollar would be invested on infrastructure development projects. “This investment will push Pakistan in the category of fast emerging economies of the world”, Ahsan Iqbal declared. He said that transfer of technology under CPEC is important part of this project. Ahsan Iqbal also spoke on Chinese’s investment in overseas destinations especially in developing countries, which would benefit greatly from this investment to improve the infrastructure in these countries. Pakistan will also benefit immensely from it through Chinese investment in agriculture, textile, engineering, minerals, chemical and tourism sectors. Federal Minister said that CPEC projects are environmentally friendly and would help to develop the economy of the country on modern lines.
