Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, addressed a range of critical national issues during a recent appearance on Dawn News. In his discussion, the Minister focused on political, economic, and governance challenges, highlighting the need for constructive dialogue and cooperation among political parties to address the nation’s pressing concerns. Mr. Sheikh emphasized the importance of dialogue among political parties to resolve the country’s ongoing challenges. "Dialogue is the only way forward," he stated. "Constructive discussions, both inside and outside Parliament, are crucial for addressing national issues and fostering stability." While acknowledging informal talks between the government and opposition, he stressed that formalized discussions are key to bridging differences and ensuring progress. On the economic front, Mr. Sheikh recognized the negative impact of political instability, protests, and frequent strikes on the country’s economic growth. "Political unrest and disruptions create uncertainty, which deters investment and impedes industrial growth," he noted. He expressed concern that while some positive economic indicators have emerged, continued instability could undermine these gains, calling for a stable environment to encourage growth and development. Addressing parliamentary functioning, the Minister pointed out the need for a more productive and orderly environment. "Parliament should serve as a platform for reasoned debates and resolving conflicts. Unfortunately, it often becomes chaotic, preventing meaningful discussions that can address national issues," he remarked. In light of the country’s current coalition government, Mr. Sheikh underscored the importance of inclusive governance. He noted that no single party holds a majority, requiring collaboration and compromise to ensure effective governance. "Coalition governments need cooperation, and committees have been set up to resolve disagreements and ensure smooth governance," he explained. The Minister also urged political leaders to exercise responsibility in their public statements, especially regarding international relations. "Political rhetoric should always be measured, as irresponsible statements can strain relations with friendly nations," he cautioned. Mr. Sheikh emphasized that maintaining strong diplomatic ties based on mutual respect is crucial for the country’s foreign policy. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Sheikh reiterated the government's commitment to fostering dialogue, political stability, and economic growth. He called on all political stakeholders to prioritize the national interest and work together for the country’s prosperity.
