Mr. Shahid Usman, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production visited EDB today i.e. 29th October 2024 for detailed briefing on the activities being performed by Engineering Development Board (EDB). Engr. Khuda Bukhsh Ali CEO EDB, Senior Management and other officers of EDB attended the briefing. CEO EDB described the functions of EDB and achievements since its establishment in 1995. The Parliamentary Secretary was also briefed about the current functions which include advisory role to Government of industrial issues, Policy Formulation, Market Development and Export Promotion for Engineering Sector, Industry Support, Industrial collaboration and Quality Standards, Specifications, adoption of vehicle regulations etc. The Parliamentary Secretary admired the efforts of EDB’s current management in formulation of Auto Industry Development and Export Policy(AIDEP 2021-26), Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy, interventions for promotion of Solar and Allied Equipment and new initiatives for development of engineering sector including New Energy Vehicles (NEV) Policy, Indigenization of Agriculture Implements, Mainstream Petrochemical Policy and Promoting. The Parliamentary Secretary emphasized that EDB’s focus to promote innovative technologies is in line with the vision of current Government. He also appreciated EDB for preparation of comprehensive policy to promote local manufacture and early adaption of Electric Vehicles (EV) including New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in the interest of a sustainable transport system in Pakistan, promotion of energy efficiency and transition to clean technologies &environment in the country. The Parliamentary Secretary also admired participation in international exhibitions organized by EDB in the past and urged that the best practices, once adopted should continue without any policy shift. He also appreciated EDB for shift of mobile phones from import to local manufacturing in addition to the efforts being done for promotion of localization and exports in automotive sector. CEO EDB thanked the Parliamentary Secretary for his visit to EDB and ensured that under the guidance of Ministry of Industries and Production, his office shall continue to perform the facilitative role for entire engineering sector of Pakistan. The Parliamentary Secretary ensured that in line with the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan, he will facilitate development of industrial sector and interact more frequently with EDB in near future and provide maximum support for business development, industrialization, exports and employment generation.
