The Embassy of Pakistan in Bangkok organized a special event to commemorate Kashmir Black Day, a somber milestone in the history of the region, at the Islamic Centre in Bangkok, today. The event featured a large in-person participation by members of Pakistani diaspora, academia, and the Thai Pathan community. The speakers included Ms. Abida Rafique, Assistant Professor, Mirpur University of Science & Technology, (AJK); Mr. Muhammad Azhar Virk, General Secretary, Overseas Pakistani Association, Thailand (OPA); Mr. Chakit Kareemee, Vice President, Foundation of the Islamic Centre of Thailand; Prof. Anusom Sriadulpan, General Secretary, Sheikh ul Islam Office; and Mr. Hajji Muhammad, student from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). A special address was delivered by Mr. Watcharapol Komontamactee, President of the Foundation of the Islamic Centre of Thailand. Speaking on the occasion, the participants highlighted the significance of the day marking the illegal landing of Indian occupying forces in Jammu and Kashmir and paid rich tributes to the continued sacrifices of the Kasbmiri people in their struggle for the right to self-determination as enshrined in the numerous UN Security Council Resolutions. They condemned the incessant atrocities and human rights violations by the Indian occupying forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K), particularly post 5 August 2019. They called upon the international community to play its role for the peaceful resolution of this important long-standing dispute. A special documentary highlighting the genesis of the dispute, valiant freedom struggle of the Kasbmiri people and atrocities committed by the Indian forces was screened for public awareness. In her remarks, Ambassador Rukhsana Afzaal underscored the significance of Kashmir Black Day, seven decades ago when the government of India violated international law by deploying its troops in Srinagar, based on a fraudulent instrument of accession. She brought attention to the ongoing oppression of innocent Kasbmiri people by the Indian occupation forces. She emphasized the urgent need for international action to end the illegal occupation of the Jammu and Kashmir by India. She reiterated the Government of Pakistan's continued moral, political, and diplomatic support to the oppressed Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for the right to selfdetermination. The proceedings were widely covered by print and electronic media. The event concluded with collective prayers for the successful culmination of Kashmiris' struggle for their right to selfdetermination.
