In a joint meeting of NHA & FWO it has been decided to ensure "axle load restriction" on all highways/ GT Roads for heavy vehicles like motorways. In this regard, across the country National Highway Authority and Frontier Works Organization will make joint efforts through integrated policies. Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization and Board of Investment Abdul Aleem Khan chaired the departmental briefing of NHA and FWO. He directed that weigh stations should also be set up like Motorways so that no truck or trawler exceeds the prescribed weight to avoid damage to these national properties. Federal Minister for Communications further said that national highways must be covered through the surveillance of cameras and e-Challans should be ensured for violations like speeding, seat belt and use of mobile phones. Abdul Aleem Khan observed that for the construction of new highways/ motorways we have to keep future requirements in view, therefore, it has been decided that no new motorway will be constructed without two-way and less than 6 lanes. He also issued directions regarding the completion of Sialkot, Kharian and Islamabad motorway for which FWO and NHA will adopt a joint policy. Director General FWO Maj. General Abdul Sami and Chairman NHA Shehryar Sultan in their departmental briefing informed about the current situation on various under-construction projects of Motorways and GT Roads. Federal Secretary Communications Ali Sher Mehsud also participated in the meeting. It was decided that a joint departmental meeting of National Highway Authority and Frontier Works Organization will be convened next week in which different matters will be finalized for further action.
