NDMA Advisory on Cyclonic Storm “ASNA”; Parts of Sindh & Balochistan may experience gusty winds & flooding

National Emergencies Operation Center anticipated that cyclonic storm ASNA located at about 185 km southwest of Karachi, 210 km south-southeast of Ormara, and 370 km southeast of Gwadar, cyclone ASNA Cyclonic Storm "ASNA" has moved away from the Pakistan's coast westward and it is expected to move further west and southwestward. The system will result in windspeeds of 60-80 kmh along Pakistan's coast and upto Hyderabad, Jamshoro and Dadu districts. Under this influence, Karachi division, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, T.M Khan, T.A Yar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Dadu are likely to get showers with heavy downpours until tonight. Hub, Lasbella, Awaran, Keach, and Gwadar districts of Balochistan are also likely to experience strong winds and heavy showers until tomorrow night Coastal Flooding may occur along Sindh-coast. Pluvial flood / inundation may occur in low lying areas of Sindh. Windstorms may damage crops, loose structures, etc. Thunderstorms to increase risk of lightning strikes. Electricity / other utility services may get disrupted. Fishermen of Sindh are advised not to venture into sea till 31 August and those from Balochistan till 1 September. General public is advised to avoid visiting the seaside and beach areas and remain cautious of loose structures like billboards, electrical poles, solar panels and hoardings. The public is also advised to stay informed by keeping track of weather updates and alerts. NDMA has launched the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, available on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, to provide timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines to the public. Residents of these areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow guidance from local authorities. NDMA has issued instructions to all relevant departments to take necessary precautions to mitigate the possible effects of flooding and extreme weather.
