Steering Committee Meeting aimed to Facilitate Maersk Investment in Marine Sector Pakistan
Islamabad: August 01, 2024

The steering committee aimed at facilitating investment from Denmark, particularly from the leading shipping company Maersk Line, convened in Islamabad under the chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan. The meeting was also attended virtually by the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh, along with the Federal Secretaries of the Maritime Ministry and the Chairman of Karachi Port Trust (KPT). The committee discussed the progress on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Pakistan and Denmark regarding a public-private partnership for sustainable infrastructure development. In May 2024, Danish shipping giant AP Moller – Maersk (MAERSK) announced its plan to invest billions of US dollars in Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure, particularly in Karachi Port. This investment aims to enhance the port’s infrastructure, logistics warehousing, ship breaking, and port development. This initiative marks a significant step towards bolstering Pakistan's maritime sector, with the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh, playing a pivotal role in driving these international collaborations and investments.
