Meeting Between Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Canadian High Commissioner

The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Ahad Khan Cheema met with Her Excellency Ms. Leslie Scanlon, High Commissioner of Canada to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, at the Prime Minister’s House, Islamabad. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary and Additional Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division. In his opening remarks, Mr. Cheema warmly welcomed Her Excellency and acknowledged Canada's assistance to the Government of Pakistan during the 2022 floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Cheema told Her Excellency that the energy sector is one of the main priorities of our Government on which she agreed that Canada’s priorities are aligned with the Government of Pakistan’s priorities. She highlighted the Government of Canada’s focus on Carbon Credits and hoped that the Government of Pakistan may also work on Climate Finance. Secretary EAD drew the attention of Canadian’s High Commission towards more development assistance for women’s empowerment in underdeveloped areas of Pakistan, where women have limited access towards employment opportunities. Secretary appreciated Canada’s substantial contribution in vital sectors such as education, health, and women’s empowerment. He also highlighted that technical assistance provided by Canada has been reduced over time and requested enhancement of technical assistance between two countries. In his concluding remarks, Mr. Cheema expressed his sincere gratitude to Her Excellency Ms. Leslie Scanlon and her team for their unwavering support to the Government of Pakistan.
