Federal Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal visited National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today and was briefed by NDMA officials on the functioning of their state of the art National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC). The NEOC is manned by young professionals from technical fields having expertise in using latest technology to prepare Pakistan's collective response towards natural disasters. With the help of data and satellite based mapping, weather changes, extreme heat waves, climate disasters, and glacial meltdowns can be predicted effectively. The Minister was briefed about the capabilities of National Emergency Operation Center to deal with hazards & vulnerabilities and disaster management outlook through predictive modelling. During the briefing Minister was apprised about Pakistan’s proactive approach in implementing anticipatory actions for mitigating and managing future disasters through hi-tech early warning systems. He was also briefed about launch of NDMA mobile app to provide early warning system of potential disasters. The Minister commended NDMA’s proactive approach in the form of state-of-the art NEOC and data-driven insights for creating awareness through anticipatory actions. ?
