Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Dr. Umar Saif said that the purchase of Telenor operations in Pakistan by PTCL is welcoming for the telecom sector. He was talking to Etisalat and Telenor delegation here on Thursday. Matters related to promotion of telecom sector, Spectrum auction, and the merger of Telenor in PTCL were discussed during the meeting. Dr. Umar Saif said that merger of Telenor in PTCL will accelerate the process of digital transformation in the country, urging PTCL and Telenor to play their role for the development of telecom sector. Dr. Umar Saif said that Ministry of IT & Telecom is committed for the provision of better telecom services to masses. He also urged cellular operators to take steps for providing quality services to consumers. He said that the Spectrum will be auctioned very soon. Mr. Mikhail Gerchuk, CEO International Etisalat Group , Mr. Abdulrahim Al Nooryani, Chairman Etisalat International Pakistan, Mr. Hatem Bamatraf, CEO PTCL/Ufone, Mr. Petter-Børre Furberg, Head of Telenor Asia, Mr. Khurrum Ashfaque, CEO Telenor Pakistan, and officers of MoITT attended the meeting.
