Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Ms. Nilofar Bakhtiar attended 3-day International Conference on "Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment" hosted by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, KSA with an official Pakistani delegation. Five-member delegation was also comprising of SAPM on Human Rights & Women Empowerment Ms. Mushaal Hussain Mullick, Syed Mohammad Fawad Sher Permanent Representative of Pakistan to OIC and Liaquat Ali Warraich Deputy PR to OIC. Conference was commenced on Monday, 06 November 2023 that was aimed to highlight status of Women in Islam and to honor the successes of Muslim women throughout history and at present. It focused to highlight the contributions of women to the development of the OIC Member States and to counter the negative propaganda that portrays Islamic religion as an obstacle to women's rights. The Conference was to create a detailed plan for legal and political reforms that would foster justice and empower women in Islamic societies. In her address at conference, Chairperson NCSW highlighted the contribution of Pakistani women to the society and national development. She said that Pakistani woman was epitome of resilience, courage and bravery who had proved herself in every field of life. She added that women in Pakistan had achieved highest ranks in all prominent fields be it politics, medicine, judiciary, civil institutions or armed forces even in the face of worst social injustices and economic inequalities. Chairperson particularly mentioned the plight of women and children in Gaza. She said that the history might forget perpetrators but it would not forget silent spectators who left innocent children and women die in the graveyard of Gaza of Israeli war crimes. She said that Pakistani women was standing by her Palestinian brothers and sisters who were victim worst atrocities and Pakistan would continue to raise voice for peaceful and just resolution of Israel-Palestine conflict. She urged for action instead of speeches and to stand together to show solidarity with Palestinian brethren. She demanded a resolution to condemn Israeli atrocities in Gaza. Later, a resolution was also added to the final document released at the concluding session of the conference.
