Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, chaired a progress review meeting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The meeting, held on today at Ministry of Planning, addressed the key areas of interventions as well as progress on vital goals set during the last NEC subcommittee meeting in December 2022. The agenda encompassed: 1. SDGs District Scorecards Development by each province 2. District Development plans 3. Quarterly progress on Annual Development Plans (ADPs) aligned with relevant SDGs and other policies, particularly focusing on high-priority areas. 4. Annual Plan of SDGs for 2023-2024 and the pathway forward for 2030 5. Status update on technical working groups committees The meeting was attended by the Mr. Zafar ul Hasan m, Joined Chief Economist , M Ali Kemal, Chief SDG and senior officers from provinces, including AJK and GB. The quarterly review, led by the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, aims to assess performance, analyze challenges, and chart the way forward with actionable points to accelerate SDGs' progress. Chief SDG M Ali Kemal, in his briefing, expressed concern about the slow pace of achieving SDGs due to pandemic, floods and recession. He emphasised that during the mis term review we have devised a plan to accelerate the progress. During the meeting, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission emphasized the importance of digitalizing data by urging all relevant departments to update the latest information on the Dash Board. This digital transformation will help monitor progress effectively. Deputy Chairman also stressed the need for clear identification of which organizations are working within specific SDGs sectors at the government level. He directed all relevant provincial departments to provide comprehensive SDGs implementation plans. He emphasized that it is the government's fundamental duty to ensure the provision of essential services in every district for the benefit of the public. This review meeting signifies the government's commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts to achieve these crucial objectives.
