A two-day Training Workshop on Business and Economics Reporting under the aegis of Pakistan Information Center (PIC), a project of Press Information Department (PID), began here on Thursday. In the opening session of the first day of the workshop held at the Information Service Academy, Islamabad, well-known journalist Shahbaz Rana gave a presentation to the participants about fundamental principles of economics, Micro and Macro Economics, Economic Security, Central Banks and Monetary Policy. Besides, Economic Indicators, Current Account Deficit, Factors That Determine Gdp, Gross National Product, Imports and Exports, Remittances and Investments were explained in detail. During the lecture, he told the participants about the importance, sensitivity and authenticity of facts and data in the reporting of Economics. Later on, he answered various questions of the participants about reporting on economy. In the second session of the workshop, well-known anchor person Syed Talat Hussain briefed the participants about the role of Planning Commission, Finance Division, FBR, State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Commerce Division and other international institutions including International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the formulation of financial policies. Talat Hussain told the participants about the importance of verification and authenticity of facts and figures. He also explained about the role of the IMF in determining interest rates, subsidies and taxes etc. He said figures and facts are very important because all economic policies are based on the same facts and figures. A large number of economic reporters, news agency reporters and public relations officers and women journalists from Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the workshop. At the end of the second session, Talat Hussain answered the questions of the participants. At the end of the sessions, commemorative souvenirs were presented to Shahbaz Rana and Anchor Person Syed Talat Hussain.
