First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi has stressed the need to alter the narrative on persons with disabilities (PWDs), and said that an attitudinal change in society was needed to overcome the challenges being faced in the rehabilitation and development of PWDs. First Lady visited the Karachi Down Syndrome Program (KDSP) on Monday and appreciated the efforts made by the organisation in integrating people with Down Syndrome into society. The First Lady also talked about the need for family support and their involvement, especially in the early years. She strongly emphasised the need to integrate PWDs into the national economy to alter their image as liabilities to one of the revenue generators. The First Lady interacted with children and their parents at the learning centre and lauded the work done by KDSP in creating a one-stop solution to the problems faced by people with Down Syndrome. The Karachi Down Syndrome Program is a non-profit organization dedicated to redefining the approach to caring for children and people with Down Syndrome. This organisation has been working for the past 8 years, to enable people with Down Syndrome, to live independent and productive life, in an inclusive society.
