Federal Minister of Industries and production, Syed Murtaza Mahmud has said Gems and Jewellery sector has a big potential. The government has focus to increase export of gems.
He was talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Small Gems Jewellers and Tools Association, which called on him here on Wednesday.
Underlining the economic significance and employment potential of this sector, the minister said people will be trained in rural areas as well.
The minister stressed the need to enhance the exports of gemstones and jewellery to its maximum potential.
The members of the delegation informed the minister about problems they are facing and requested him to resolve their issues like taxes, exporting of gems and jewellery and cutting of gemtones.
Informing about potential of Pakistani jewellery, one of the members of delegation, who joined the meeting from Canada online said Pakistani gems and jewellery are in high demand there among the Pakistani and South Asian Diaspora. The nationalities from India, Sarilanka and Nepal always demand Pakistani jewellery.
The minister assured the delegation to look into their problems and resolve at priority bases.
