A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka this morning to mark the nation’s Independence Day and celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of its creation. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Imran Ahmed Siddiqui hoisted national flag at the Chancery to the tune of the national anthem. The ceremony was attended by the members Pakistan community in Bangladesh, local media persons and staff of the High Commission. Messages of President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were read out on the occasion, says a press release received here today from Dhaka. In their messages, the President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan congratulated the nation and paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s founding fathers. They renewed committment to transform Pakistan in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The Pakistani leadership also expressed solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), who are facing military siege for the last many years and reassured Pakistan’s political, moral and diplomatic support for their just struggle. The High Commissioner, while felicitating the Pakistani community in Bangladesh and Bhutan on this auspicious occasion, said that this day reminded the Pakistanis across the world of the historic struggle of our founding-fathers for an independent homeland where we could live our lives with religious, cultural and social freedom. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of our ancestors, the High Commissioner emphasized the importance of the vision of Poet-Philosopher, Allama Muhammad Iqbal and ideals of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who envisaged Pakistan to be a progressive and moderate welfare state. A photographic exhibition of rare photographs of the Founding Father and other leaders of Pakistan movement was also organized on the occasion. The High Commission also launched Bangla version of a documentary, Story of Pakistan, outlining the struggle of the Muslims of the South Asian sub-continent against colonialism. A calligraph art by Naqqash of Masjid-e-Nabawi specially commissioned on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence of Pakistan was also launched. A book about the poetry of the national poet of Pakistan, Allama Muhammad Iqbal was launched too on the occasion. Special prayers were offered for the well-being of Pakistan, its people and the emancipation of people of IIOJK from brutal Indian occupation.
