Newly appointed HEC Chairman Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed called on the Federal Minister of Education and Professional Training Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain today on 2nd August, 2022.
Rana Tanveer said that Pakistan needs to improve the quality of its universities. He said that the quality of education should be the top priority. He said that Pakistan needs to upgrade the current universities such that they can compete with the best universities in the world. He said that a handful of Pakistani universities are in the top ranked universities in the world.
The Federal Minister said that we need to strengthen the existing universities so that they are able to achieve higher global rankings. He said that through improving the rankings of our universities we can achieve greater international acceptability. He emphasized the need to improve governance with special focus on financial discipline of all of the public universities in Pakistan.
Rana Tanveer said that performance evaluation of all universities should be strongly linked with quality output. He said that financial accountability and discipline should be at amongst the top priorities in addition with overall governance. He said that there should be a stricter mechanism for overall accountability to ensure maximum delivery. He stressed that we should move towards greater financial self-reliance of public universities.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said that the future is in Vocational Training of the population of Pakistan. He said that it provides the best opportunity to the people to find jobs. He said that public universities should develop vocational skills training capability as well. Federal Minister said that skills development should be a key area of focus as it can provide immediate positive result.
