PR No. 159
Islamabad: July 27, 2022

Capt ® Muhammad Khurram Agha, Chairman National Highway Authority visited the Hub River Bridge on National Highway N-25 today on 27th July, 2022 upon instructions of Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Federal Minister for Communications Mr. Asad Mehmood. Two (02 x) spans of Hub River Bridge had collapsed due to heavy rainfall and flood on 25th July, 2022 while it was already closed for traffic since 22nd July, 2022 due to immense erosion in piles and traffic was diverted to Hub Bypass. Hub Bridge was constructed by Communication & Works Department in 1962. Hub Bridge had 24 spans, each span was 25 meter. Width of the bridge was 8.50 meter. This bridge had outlived its design service life and did not have sufficient strength to bear the immense loading of present day HTV traffic. Moreover, during recent spell of heavy rainfall of Monsoon 2022, the condition of bridge had become worse and could lead to unpleasant incident similar to Sher Shah Bridge; therefore, plying traffic on this bridge was suspended with the cooperation of district administration. Keeping in view the current conditions of remaining spans of Hub Bridge, Chairman NHA has directed for Construction of New Hub River Bridge and to fill all breaches of Highway in Bela-Uthal-Hub Sections on National Highway N-25 on Top Most Priority Basis in order to facilitate road commuters, local population and industrial sectors. Chairman NHA also directed that keeping in view the upcoming monsoon spells, the necessary preparations must be ensured.
