Special Assistant to Prime Minister on youth affairs Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja chaired the meeting of the PM’s task force on youth employment policy. The main focus of the inaugural meeting was to align the important points which will act as the basis for the upcoming policy and will ensure the creation of more than 2 million jobs annually. SAPM Shaza Fatima highlighted the issue of unemployment and said that the utimate goal of this employment policy is to define a clear pathway for national youth employment all across Pakistan. Shaza Fatima Khawaja further narrated that the prime minister’s youth programme aims to generate immediate results through short term policy goals,which will be followed by long term goals for the continuation of employment generation. Despite having a 68 percent share of the population youth constitutes only 48.04% of the workforce. Members of the Prime Minister’s task force also shared their valuable suggestions about the exigency of the employment policy and stressed upon inclusion of sector-based initiatives in the policy. SAPM said that consolidated and facts-based data will guarantee an actionable policy, therefore the process of communication between different departments should be made effective to ensure rapid progress in policy making. PM Task Force pointed out different issues that will hinder the process of devising policy. SAPM urged the task force to come up with possible solutions to these problems so that employment policy can be formulated at the earliest. Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that meetings of the Prime Minister’s Task Force will be held weekly to review the progress. SAPM briefed the task force that government will also involve different Associations, Chambers of commerce, and Private Organizations in the process to make an ideal policy with long-lasting impacts.
