Federal Minister for Commerce Naveed Qamar stressed the need for the WTO to uphold the foundational pillars of the Marrakech Agreement of consensus based decision making, special and differential treatment for developing countries and a fully functional two tiered dispute settlement mechanism, says a press release received here on Monday from Geneva.
The minister highlighted the challenges to the organisation in the unfulfilled mandates of the past and unilateral action and non-compliance of rules by larger players.
He called for an effective conclusion to the WTO response to pandemic and solutions for restrictive IP rights in addressing the Covid pandemic and future preparedness.
The minister stressed the need for large subsidisers to take the bigger responsibility for saving fish under the common but differentiated responsibility principle.
