Islamabad: May 19, 2022

Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman received briefing on the mission, achievements and future plans of Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) to mobilise the board and increase its efficiency in handling any future incidents. She later visited the control room set up by IWMB at the Marghzar zoo to monitor the functioning and efficiency of the control room. Talking to the journalists at the Zoo, she thanked them and the media for their proactive approach towards raising the climate change issue. "Without participation of the media, timely action and measures cannot be taken. Media helps in mobilising the society into action. Through your help, we need to disseminate this message that such incidents will not be tolerated in the future. Your help is also needed to raise awareness on climate change issues that our country faces at the moment." Addressing the TikTok issues, she stressed, "We strongly condemn such irresponsible acts and harsh punitive measures will be taken against such events in the future. Dolly is absconding at the moment, however, we are pursuing the matter through the provincial management. We need to understand that this is our mother Earth. We need to handle it with care and love." Federal Minister urged the public to be active citizens and help Ministry of Climate Change in bringing a positive change, "More than 900 forest fires have occured throughout the world. This fire started in KP particulary, and doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of IWMB & CDA. However, CDA is setting up a helpline, preemptively, for the public to report forest fires. The numbers will be made public and we will ensure this helpline is functional."
