Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met Tunisian Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi on the margins of the 48th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad today. They discussed the entire gamut of bilateralrelations and regional issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Qureshi underscored that Pakistan attached importance to its longstanding and brotherly ties with Tunisia that were based on common interests and shared values. He appreciated Tunisia’s support for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative on countering Islamophobia.
The two Foreign Ministers reviewed the progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation since the last session of the Bilateral Political Consultations was heldin March 2021. They emphasized the importance of advancing negotiations on the proposed Pakistan-Tunisia Preferential Trade Agreement.
Foreign Minister Qureshi and Foreign Minister Jerandi also agreed to convene the 10th Session of the Pakistan-Tunisia Joint Commission during the second half of 2022.
Recalling the history of close coordination between the two countries on international forums, Foreign Minister Qureshi appreciated Tunisia’s role in promoting regional peace and security as well its principled stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute atthe UN and the OIC.
The two sides agreed to maintain regular, high-level exchanges with a view to further advancing bilateralcooperation in the economic, trade and security spheres.
