IT MINISTER SYED AMIN UL HAQUE INAUGURATES VU ORANGI TOWN CAMPUS

In an historical event Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) Syed Amin Ul Haque inaugurated Virtual University of Pakistan's Orangi Town Campus on Monday in Karachi. It is first Government University’s Campus in the Orangi Town. The Virtual University (VU) of Pakistan is the first public sector ICT-based University with more than 130 thousands students, which is working under the Ministry of IT & Telecom. Chief Guest Federal Minister for IT Syed Amin Ul Haque congratulated the Virtual University administration and the people of Karachi on establishing the campus of University in Orangi Town that is offering world-class education. He said that this campus will bring revolutionary changes in the life of residents of Orangi Town through world class education facilities and Master's degrees in five different fields will be awarded at Virtual University Orangi Town Campus. Syed Amin Ul Haque revealed that Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab was requested to provide a building in Orangi Town for Virtual University campus and he complied with our request on emergency basis. He said MQM Pakistan had promised the residents of Orangi that they would not have to go abroad for higher education; hopefully the people of Orangi will eat less bread but now they will definitely give higher education to their children. If Orangi develops through education, then this city and province will also develop, he added. Providing basic amenities like clean drinking water and road construction for not only in Orangi Town even for whole city, is the mission MQM Pakistan, he said IT Minister urged Administrator Karachi to hand over the ruined schools of Orangi to us, and the MQM Pakistan will turn them into state of the art schools. We will provide the required funds ourselves, he said. “With each passing day a new technology is coming and we will have to equip our children with the latest and emerging technologies”, said Amin Ul Haque. He said that as per party manifesto and directives by the Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, all decisions in the ministry are being made on merit and in a transparent manner. He said the impression was that MQM Pakistan's IT minister would not promote IT in Sindh, but on the contrary, we have launched and completed most of projects in Sindh; I assure you, a revolution is coming from the Sindh Digital Project. Syed Amin Ul Haque further said that the education and training play a pivotal role in shaping a better society. Hopefully, this campus of Orangi Town will be a milestone in the path of modern education in the region. The MQM and its workers are known as an educated and conscious party. We are committed that the poor and the middle class should have the same standard of education as the elite class, so that they too can play their full role in the development of the country and the nation, he said. Highlighting the core achievements of the University, IT Minister Syed Amin Ul Haque said the VU has produced 2.4 million freelancers/IT professionals through DigiSkills training program, which enabled Pakistan to earn massive revenue and helped to enhance international ranking in freelance industry. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary MOITT, Dr. Sohail Rajput said that motto of IT Ministry is to strengthen the youth and people of the country with the latest technologies. Its practical implementation is in the form of a new campus of Pakistan's only IT and E-learning based University, he said. Rector Virtual University Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti said that VU Graduates are preferred in IT industry due to hands on training as a self-learner while its graduates are working in dynamic fields across Pakistan at key positions including Pakistan Army. Several students are the winners of many international and local competitions. It is worth mentioning here that VU Orangi Town campus is built in just one month of time with all necessary facilities like; Campus manager office, faculty room, visitors room/ waiting area, reception, computer lab, female common room, wet lab, scientific store, video conferencing room.
