NATIONAL COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN(NCSW) HOSTS EVENT TO MARK BREAK THE BIAS- OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2022

To mark the Observance of International Women’s Day 2022, the Special talent exchange program (STEP) in collaboration with National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and the United Nations Population Fund organized an event with the theme “BREAK THE BIAS-”. Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women, Ms. Nilofer Bakhtiar graced the event as chief guest. The event was attended by representatives of Government, United Nations Population Fund, International NGOs, Disabled People Organization Representatives, and Disabled Persons especially women with disabilities. The event contributes to advancing gender equality, inclusive and equitable society for women and girls with disabilities in Pakistan. NCSW through a new declaration and strategic plan (the National plan of action), committed to be more responsive and inclusive in its approaches to tackle the Gender Based Violence survivors, especially those with a disability while actively collaborating with development partners and DPOs. While speaking at the occasion, -”. Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women, Ms. Nilofer Bakhtiar said, "Women with disabilities have as much right as any other citizen to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health, freedom, rights, and education as well as equality of opportunity without discrimination based on disability." She also highlighted the efforts being made from the government side and told ICT Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2020 and Gender based Violence courts established to support accountability mechanisms for Gender-based violence survivors, especially women with disability. She also added that last year, they have made efforts to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and now will conduct the accessibility audit to make the buildings accessible for the person with a disability. NCSW signed the Islamabad declaration on addressing Gender based violence against Women with Disability, to act in preventing and addressing gender-based violence, against Women with Disability. She congratulated STEP and UNFPA for conducting a much-needed event and promised support for future endeavors.
