Federal Minister for National Food Security, Syed Fakhar Imam chaired a meeting for Cotton Intervention Price in the ministry today. Chairman TCP, MD PASSCO, President Pakistan Kissan Ittehad, cotton growers and ministry officials were present in the meeting. In the meeting it was stated that the minimum support price of cotton will be introduced soon. The minister said that this is the first time that a minimum support price for cotton will be specified. The time to support cotton should have started when cotton was sowed but at the moment, plant protection can and will be given priority. It was stated that whoever has a single bail to sell should accommodated by the ginning factories as to avoid cartelization. The minister said that cotton had been strategically put back though cotton is above other crops for the economy of Pakistan.
