Officials of Project Management Unit Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) called on the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Mr. Fakhar Imam in his office dated May21, 2021.Chief Executive Officer Livestock & Dairy Development Board Dr. Khurshid Ahmed, Project Manager PMI Project Save the Calf Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Kiani, and Project Manager PMI Project Calf Feedlot Fattening Dr. ShoaibSaleem were present in the Meeting.
During the review progress meeting, Minister for Food Security & Research was briefed about the progress of ongoing PMI projects i.e. Save the Calf, Calf Feedlot Fattening & Backyards Poultry.
In a brief progress report, Save the Calf project is costing 3,401.699 Million Rupees having federal share of 1,103.382 Million and 2,298.320 Million of Provincial share. The project has utilized 23 percent of the total share so far and successfully achieving its targets. During two years of the projects about 55 451 farmers were benefitted to save more than 93 thousand baby calvesresulting an increase of 5 thousand and 60 metric tons of meat in the country. In addition to this, capacity building of more than 15 thousand farmers on calf rearing business has also been done.
The Calf Feedlot Fattening project has a total cost of Rs. 2385.139 Million with Federal Share of Rs 680.410 Million while Provincial share is 1704.729 Million rupees. 22 percent of the total budget has been utilized so far. During two years of the projects more than 24615 Beef Farms and 2058 Mutton Farms has been established so in which almost 110094 animals has been fattened to produce premium quality beef and more than100,000 lambs are fattened to produce quality mutton throughout the country. In addition to this, capacity building of about twelve thousand farmers on calf feedlot fattening has also been done
The Backyard Poultry Initiative project has total cost of Rs. 1635.471 Million with federal share of 279.331 Million, provincial 349.30 Million and Beneficiary Share of 1006.84 Million rupees. Upto now, about 23 percent of the total budget has been utilized and more than 1,3 million poultry birds has been distributed in deserving families along with capacity building of 84,532 beneficiaries.
The on-going Prime Minister Initiative Projects for improving livestock businesses are running successfully throughout the country. It aimed to increase the quality beef & mutton production in Pakistan and capacity building livestock farmers on calf rearing and feedlot business and also to reduce the mortality in baby calves. It further aimed to strengthen backyard poultry to address protein deficiency and malnutrition throughout the country which also reflects the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Minister Food Security & Research expressed his satisfaction on the pace of ongoing projects and reiterated the resolve to complete projects at all cost to improve the rural economy of the country.
