The Secretary, Ministry of Narcotics Control, Akbar Durrani, (TI)/ PAS is currently visiting Vienna, Austria, as head of the delegation of the Government of Pakistan to attend the 64th Annual Session of Commission on Narcotic Drugs. During the week-long visit, he will attend the CND and present Pakistan's stance on various matters of vital significance related to global dimensions of narcotic drugs policy. Owing to its geographical location, Pakistan has an important role to play in the CND and is a member of the Commission since long. During the plenary session, the Secretary MNC presented the Country Statement and apprised the representatives of member countries and international organisations about the efforts being made by the Ministry to control the flow of drugs within and out of Pakistan. He particularly mentioned that even during the testing times of pandemic, ANF has made significant seizures and has effectively coordinated with other sister agencies to bust Drug Trafficking Organisations. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the members of ANF during drug interdiction efforts. He further stated that Drug Demand Reduction is also a primary area of focus for the Ministry and ANF and various events have been organised to raise awareness against the ill effects of drugs. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Secretary MNC also held a meeting with the Ambassador of Pakistan to Austria, H.E. Aftab Ahmed Khokher. During the meeting, the Secretary, MNC, appreciated the role of Pakistan's Mission in Austria in successfully presenting the stance of the Government of Pakistan on narcotic law enforcement. During his stay, the Secretary, MNC, is expected to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of various countries attending the CND. He is accompanied by a senior officer of ANF, Syed Sijjeel Haider who heads the International Cooperation Directorate at ANF HQs. Secretary Narcotics also visited Pakistan's Embassy and had a meeting with Ambassador H.E. Aftab Khokhar.
