Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari said in her tweet “A significant milestone achieved by Ministry of Human Rights to help get destitute prisoners released. She also mentioned that meeting was held yesterday in MOHR in which Home secretaries of all provinces participated to deliberate on issue of payment of Arsh, Diyat and Daman Fund for destitute prisoners. She also mentioned that These are prisoners who bec of disability, poverty &/or old age could not pay fines imposed by Courts so are languishing in prisons. Today we approved in principle release of Rs 15 mn for 12 destitute prisoners from Punjab and KP for payment under Arsh, Daman & Diyat Fund. She also highlighted that Home secretaries of Sindh & Balochistan also committed to forwarding cases of eligible destitute prisoners after obtaining data from Provincial Prison Authorities soon. She also mentioned that we have requested them to expedite this process.
