Begum Samina Arif Alvi has said that it takes five minutes to check cancer in your body by yourself and the disease can be diagnosed and treated at an early stage without facing any further complications.
"Late diagnosis is a serious issue, and remote areas of the country are facing problems due to lack of awareness, screening and treatment facilities", she added. She gave these remarks at a Breast Cancer awareness ceremony, held at Lady Dufferin Hospital, Karachi, today.
Expressing concern over the lack of awareness among women, she remarked that, in her recent visit to Balochistan, she noticed the lack of facilities and even technicians were not available there. She called upon philonthropists and civil society to come forward to support the breast cancer institutes to fight against this fatal disease.
While appreciating the initiatives taken by the Lady Dufferin hospital about Breast Cancer awareness, she suggested the management to continue the campaign for the whole year and not just for October which is commemorated as PINKtober.
Later on, a tree was colored pink by the First Lady as a token of Breast cancer awareness among the masses.
