President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistani writers and scholars can play an important role in eliminating the scourge of terrorism and in the national progress.

The President said this during a meeting with artists, poet and composer of the song “Ahle Qalam Ka Geet” who headed by Advisor to the PM on National History and Literary Heritage Division, Irfan Siddiqui, called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday. On the occasion, Secretary National History and Literary Heritage Division Aamir Hasan and Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio were also present.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that today the country is confronted with issues of religious fundamentalism, linguistic biasness and terrorism adding that poetry like Ahle Qalam Ka Geet will be beneficial in addressing these issues. The President noted that Ahle Qalam Ka Geet, jointly composed by Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) and Pakistan Television, represents all fields of the art. The President said that promotion of art and literature is priority of the present Government.

 

The President has invited the artists on a cup of tea to appreciate their work. On the occasion, cash prizes were also given to artists, poet and composer of the song.
